This section is home to our selection of authentic hand made swords. These superior quality swords differ from their cheaper counterparts in several ways. First, they have high carbon steel blades as opposed to the stainless steel blades of lower priced swords. This allows for better edge holding capacity as well as more strength and flexibility in the blade. Each blade is individually hand forged and hammered out by hand. Stainless steel blades are much more brittle and easier to break. Second, they are "full tang". This means that the blade extends all the way through the handle. Lower quality swords have a "push tang" which does not go all the way through the handle, therefore again, they are easier to break. And lastly, these swords feature authentic traditional materials and fittings such as genuine ray skin and authentic Japanese silk covering the handle, as well as lacquered wooden scabbards. If you are looking for a "real" sword, you are in the right place!
No edged weapon in history has ever been surrounded with such mystique and tradition like the Japanese sword. The sword is so closely associated with the Japanese samurai that it became known as the "soul of the samurai". It was both weapon and symbol, forged as a religious act and wielded with superhuman skill. A sword forged by a celebrated master was one of the most prized gifts that a warrior could receive.
